Also, to note...this app was developed solely as a learning tool for non-masons, it was not developed for initiated brothers, so I understand masons will be a bit disappointed because they will already know everything inside the app. This is clearly stated in the Application Description. There should be a totally different app for brothers, but that was not the point of THIS app. But, to acknowledge your post again, I do want this app to be as accurate as possible for prospective brothers, and will continue to improve this over time to make sure it is as accurate as can be. Ed, this was just a first version of the app. I'm hoping to really expand it and make it a kind of fully inclusive app separated by the different sects. I'd love some constructive feedback from some of your readers as to what they'd like to see in a masonic app, and I'll do my best to include it in the 2nd version. If specific information is inaccurate, I'll certainly change it.

Your recommendation, Brian, is NOT "along the same lines" but is, in fact, quite different than reading a book via Kindle and/or the iPhone. I'll have a full post on your product later in the week but for now, I'll just say that this "app" is not an "app" at all but rather just a list of things, some very misleading. (Doesn't the York Rite exist? Apparently not - in this app at least.) The information is pretty but pretty incomplete - and in some cases, completely WRONG! (Not all Grand Lodges allow membership at the age of 18, for example, and if you go to the OTHER half of the United States where there's a Scottish Rite jurisdiction, you'll find that the degree names are completely different in several cases.)

I think you can see where we're heading with this. It should also be noted that you've just signed up on Blogger AND that the name you've used is also the e-mail address of the company that's made this. Perhaps a little 'full disclosure' might be appropriate, eh?

While 99cents won't break anyone, they might want to use it as a down payment for their next Starbucks trip instead.

Such a shame folks have to resort to such blatant product shilling.... {SIGH}

This worries me greatly.

It's bad enough that we're perpetually accused of devil worship and so forth; and to that end we're sorry to report that in fact in my own mother lodge (Friendship 33 / Southington, CT) we do in fact have a couple of Yankee fans.
(While not outright devil worship, that's often considered pretty close.)

But now this!
Do business with AT&T???
(Gasp!)

Is that allowed in all jurisdictions or would we be required to apply for some sort of special permission from our respective grand lodges?

You might want to check this blog a bit further. I’ve already posted twice about this and the developer was certainly none too pleased that I said his app was essentially useless. He wanted further discussion comments at the Apple store where they're buried and rarely looked at as you can see by his comments.

You still haven't identified yourself as a Mason and as to the question of what to leave in and what to leave out, I'm sure that any one of a dozen or more Masonic discussion venues could have assisted.

The trowel can do exactly what the ritual says.

And I'm glad that you added localizations but that still doesn't add value: it simply means that I can read the same ten words in three different languages.

You might also consider that ANY publicity is better than NO publicity which is exactly what you'd gotten prior to my blog post.

Thank you for the objective coverage !
I wrote this application.
Honestly, I wanted to put so much there, mainly text, but was really worried about what I can and what I can not.
So, I left it with the tools only, and tried to make them functional as much I could.
I am still looking what the trowel can do.
I also added Italian and Spanish localizations.
